چکیده

The theory of direct electron-positron pair production in the collision of heavy ions i s formulated in the framework of the quasimolecular model. The pair production process acquires a collective nature for (Z1 +Z,)cu; 1 and can be understood a s the shakeoff of the strong vacuum polarization cloud formed in the quasimolecule. The total Cross section is, e .g., 76 l b for Pb + Pb at Coulomb bar r ie r energies.

Modeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions

By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...

Role of Multistep Processes in Heavy-Ion Inner-Shell Excitations

This Letter discusses inner-shell excitation in collisions of very heavy ions (2, -2, 2 140) in the framework of the quasimolecular model. The importance of multistep excitations and of coupling between continuum states is demonstrated. The lso vacancy probabilities resulting from coupled-channels calculations exceed perturbation theory by a factor 3-5, thus giving good agreement with recent ex...

Macroscopic quasimolecules in dissipative heavy-ion collisions

Long-range quasiperiodic correlations in fluctuating excitation functions of dissipative heavy-ion collisions are obtained from a pole representation for the S-matrix elements. The time power spectra of a decaying dinuclear system shows a time-orientation localization as if it rotates like a classical object. This allows one to interpret the correlations in terms of the formation of specific nu...

Nuclear alpha-clustering, superdeformation, and quasimolecular resonances

Nuclear alpha-clustering has been the subject of intense study since the advent of heavy-ion accelerators. Looking back for more than 40 years we are able today to see the connection between quasimolecular resonances in heavy-ion collisions and extremely deformed states in light nuclei. For example superdeformed bands have been recently discovered in light N=Z nuclei such as 36Ar, 40Ca, 48Cr, a...

Physics of Heavy Ions Collisions: the Summary of Moriond-97

CERN dilepton experiments have provided the most exciting data. Strong enhancement at low masses observed by CERES and HELIOS3 indicate strong modification in the vector channel in matter compared to vacuum properties. NA50 data on J/ψ suppression in PbPb collisions show surprising deviation from the previous trend. The question is whether it is the expected early-time signal of QGP, or due to ...
